Running Log/Video of the Day

May 25, 2011

Needless to say I’m not running much these days. In fact, not at all. Walking, biking a little, that’s about it. Of course I’m only about 2 and a half months away from having a baby so it’s understandable, but really, I can’t wait to be out there again. All in good time…

Feb. 23, 2011

After taking almost 2 weeks off I’m finally getting consistent again. So far I’ve gone Saturday, Monday and today. I have to admit, I’m glad I’m only running 5 miles of Ragnar this year. I don’t think I would make it much more than that. However, since this is the first time I’ve ever really been able to run during a pregnancy at all, let alone through the first 3 months, I’m feeling pretty good about my level!

Feb. 5th, 2011

Last week was unusually cold for us and so I totally wimped out of my runs for the week. 24 degrees is not for me! Today was a little warmer, so my mom and I ventured out for an easy walk-run. It was nice to be moving again for sure and I am anxiously looking forward to next week and warmer weather!

Jan. 24, 2011

Great run this morning and I finally woke up on time which meant I was able to do more than the regular 2 mile route. I added a whole mile… hmm. Maybe 5:30 isn’t early enough. Will have to re-evaluate the whole time thing.

Jan. 19, 2011

Now I’m consistent with my workout, but I’m also consistently running way fewer miles than I should be. I blame it on our dark neighborhood and lack of moonlight to get me to venture out a little more. Good thing spring is on the way. Only 5 more weeks until Ragnar…

Jan. 5, 2011

Well, I did pretty well keeping up the workout schedule until I went out of town for the holidays, then… nothing.Β  At all. I felt like such a slug by the end of our trip and actually went for my first run of the year today. It was really cold out, the run was short and slow, but it was great to get out again and move a little. Now I’m a little more than behind on my training schedule and am really going to have to work hard the next 8 weeks…

Nov. 17, 2010

Race is over (I’ll write about that soon) and I am now recovered from that and the sickness that arrived right in time for my race. Not cool. I’ve been slowly getting into a more regular routine of 4 days of running and 2 days of strength training, but I just looked over a training program for my next race and it seems I need to up my mileage quite a bit to catch up. So much for taking it easy over the holidays… Hopefully this more rigorous training will help me stay away from the sweets. ha! not a chance!

Oct. 31, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I caught up my running log and right before I saved it, Geoffrey was nice enough to turn off my computer and I lost it. Being way too busy to worry about it, let alone catch up the whole month I’ll just do a collective run-down of October workouts…

I’m a week away from my first ever triathlon, so training has been split between running, biking, swimming and a little resistance training. Very little, but we try. I’m so ready to be done with this race! I’ve loved the diversity of the training, but I’m too big of a baby to do any more 6am, 60 degree swims in an un-heated pool. Brrr! I’ve had plenty of extremely long hot showers post workouts the last 2 weeks!

I have only missed a handful of workout days for the month, so sometime when I have time I’ll have to add up all the miles. … or not.

Sept. 22, 2010

It’s threatening to rain today and there were lots of pretty clouds this morning, but yet it was HOT! It was a muggy and rough run this morning and I was happy when it was over. I showered, took my girls to school and then another friend wanted to bike with me. It was not as hot, but much tougher with the bike trailer this time. I love 2 workouts a day, but now I have to shower again!

Sept. 21, 2010

Last night I swam for 20 minutes and then ran for 20 minutes. Felt great. This morning I biked for 30 minutes and ran for 15.Β  Now I feel tired. Can’t hold still or I fall asleep. Other than that I feel good. Training is really picking up…

*song of the day* Phoenix “Lisztomania”

Sept. 16, 2010

I’ve been in full force triathlon training last weekend and this whole week, so my free time will be nonexistent now for a while. I have felt a big difference adding the biking, swimming and weight training to my routine all ready. I still have about 7 weeks left before my race and I’m getting more and more confidant about my swimming abilities. It helps to know the race will be in a pool and not a lake!

~miles~3 running

*song of the day* A Fine Frenzy “Happier”

Sept. 9, 2010

Only a short warm up run this morning, then tiny bit of strength training at the park. It was all I could muster up after some beach volleyball last night.

~miles~1

*song of the day* The Last Goodnight “Stay Beautiful”

Sept. 8, 2010

This morning felt like a free day. We biked 6 miles, but we must not have been pushing it because it seemed too easy. Not that I’m complaining or anything…

~miles~6

*song of the day* Anberlin “Impossible”

Sept. 7, 2010

It’s getting darker in the mornings now, too bad it’s not feeling any cooler. Hopefully that will happen soon. Nice run today. The sky was overcast and beautiful. Great start to my day…

*song of the day* Paramore “Brick By Boring Brick”

Sept. 6, 2010

I wasn’t expecting to get a workout in today, but the pool we chose had a lap-pool so… why not?

~miles~umm… a half maybe? 20 minutes anyway.

*song of the day* Travis “Flowers In The Window”

Sept. 2, 2010

Up too late last night so today was a late morning bike ride with a little buddy in the bike trailer for my workout. The first half was easy, but I was really feeling those extra 30lbs on the way back home. I really need to bike more if I am going to attempt a tri anytime soon…

~miles~6

*song of the day* Neon Trees “Animal”

Aug. 25-Sept. 1

I didn’t keep track of exact days, but ran twice, biked once and swam once. Getting back into a great routine…

~miles~3 running, 6 biking, half mile swim

*song of the day* A Fine Frenzy “Happier”

Aug. 23, 2010

This morning was my 3rd time running in the last week. The first 2 times I went at 6:30am and 7:30am, and both times were entirely too hot to be outside! I managed to only get in 2 miles before I was ready to head home.

Today’s run at 5:30 was much better. A little muggy because of coming storms – but so much easier to breathe in. Guess I’m stuck with early nights and mornings for now.

~miles~ 3

*song of the day* Kelly Jones “The Subway Song”

Aug. 14, 2010

Not only did I get up to run this morning, but I got up about 5 hours earlier than usual to do it. (should I admit I’ve been so lazy lately? πŸ™‚ ) I’m not gonna lie, it was rough to get going, but I survived and can’t wait for the next run!

~miles~2

*song of the day* Shakira “Waka Waka”

Aug. 12, 2010

I did my situps, pushups, tri-dips and lunges yesterday and then proceeded to steam clean the carpet in every room in my house last night, finishing up this morning. And yes, I am most definitely counting this as a workout. I was a sweaty, worn out girl!

~miles~let’s say 1

*song of the day* Weezer “Troublemaker”

Aug. 9, 2010

The last 2 times I ran were the 22nd, and 24th of July(5k) and I had strep throat. No, it was not a very good idea, nor a good run, but at the time I didn’t realize how sick I was. In fact, by the time I started antibiotics for it, I had already added a second infection of bronchitis. Yeah, I was not in a good way for a long time. This is the first week I feel good and don’t seriously die just trying to walk up the stairs. I’m even going to try a mellow workout today to get some strength back.

I don’t think I’ll try running for another week, but man, I am really missing it right now. The last few weeks have been sheer torture! Hope today doesn’t hurt too bad. Wish me luck…

~miles~0

*song of the day* Maroon 5 “Misery”

July 19, 2010

I’m still staying up way too late, and it’s still too hot to run late in the day. I have had to resort to riding a bike around instead. Since I’m pulling 2 boys in a trailer, I think I’ll count it for now…

~miles~several

*song of the day* Jack Johnson “You And Your Heart”

July 12, 2010

When did I get so terrible at updating my running log? Wow. Well, the important thing is that I’m still running, though not as often as I would like to. The other important thing is that there is great new music out right now which makes me want to update more. Hopefully that will make me run more too…

Miles ~ nothing for over a week!

*song of the dayΒ Muse “Neutron Star Collison” (Love Is Forever)

Feb. 25, 2010

Another early morning short run. It wasn’t as cold as Tuesday and getting out of bed was much easier. Let’s hope I can keep this schedule up!

~miles~1.5

*song of the day Missy Higgins “Where I Stood”

Feb. 23, 2010

Have I really not updated here since Dec? Yikes! I just ran my first race (a 5k) over a week ago, but haven’t been really consistent with my running schedule so far this year. This morning I ran with a group that is training for a race in April, so hopefully I’ll have some good running partners for a while until it’s light enough to run on my own in the morning again. Not that I prefer to go alone, but right now if someone doesn’t show it’s way too dark to go solo. Hurry spring! πŸ™‚

~miles~2

*song of the day* The Beatles “Here Comes The Sun”

Dec. 18, 2009

Did a fun 3 mile run this morning and I enjoyed it, but my knees did not. I guess that’s what I get for not running for so long. I have been keeping consistent with the boot camp though and can actually do almost the entire workout now. (minus real push-ups!) My clothes are fitting better, but I’m just not getting the energy like I do from running. Hopefully when I get back from Utah for the holidays my running group will start up again. I will be running regardless… πŸ™‚

*song of the day* Michael Stipe “We’re Not So Bad” Because I have watched Olive The Other Reindeer 100 times this week…

Nov. 26, 2009

Between running a couple of times a week, and attending a boot camp, I’m really starting to see some progress in the shape up dept. I’m also feeling like it hurts to walk up the stairs and pick up baby right now with my thrashed muscles, but at least I know it’s working! I’m hoping to pick a race to run soon so that I can start doing some serious running again, but for now this regime will get me strong for whatever is next!

*song of the day* Snow Patrol “Just Say Yes”

Nov. 19, 2009

I actually ran today. A real run. I know. Hard to believe. Actually it was the second time this week and I have been walking quite a bit too. I can’t begin to tell you how much better it feels to be running again. Well, I can, but this isn’t where I blog. πŸ˜‰

~miles~2.8

*song of the day* Ingrid Michaelson “Overboard”

Oct. 20, 2009

Quick update to note that I have only ran twice this last two weeks! I really thought I’d be able to get a couple of runs in during fall break, but the trip was shorter/busier than I thought and I have been staying up too late!Β  I have been walking a bit, but that too is sporadic at best.

Time to get back into a routine…

~miles~0

*song of the day* Mute Math “Spotlight”

Oct. 3, 2009

I woke up later than I hoped today, but with the cooler weather I was still able to get a good run in without overheating! It’s strange how fast I have acclimated to this desert climate. I was cold in the shade at the park the other day and came home to find out it was 85 degrees. I am now a wimp. Oh well. πŸ™‚

~miles~3

*song of the day* Jason Mraz “Prettiest Friend”

Sept. 25, 2009

Super behind updating here. What’s new? πŸ™‚ Well, I know I have ran at least twice a week since the 2 anyway, so that’s something…

Thursday and today I was able to get a good fast run in. I guess technically I wasn’t very fast, but it felt fast compared to the slow jog I have been doing as of late. I was getting discouraged about my lack of consistent workouts until I remembered that I didn’t even attempt to do anything this soon after my other kids were born. Apparently I’m doing better than I thought. That or I used to be really lazy… I’ll go with the first one!

~miles~3

*song of the day* Meiko “Reasons To Love You”

Sept. 2, 2009

I woke up too late to get any sort of distance in, so I ran long enough to get my muscles all warmed up and then did a workout on FitTV. I’m really wanting to tone up so I should probably plan more days like this. Feeling a little stronger and less flabby today. nice.

*song of the day* Anberlin “True Faith” New Order cover

Aug. 31, 2009

Last week is such a blur, I know I ran here and there, but the last thing on my mind was tracking the miles. However, I was determined to get a good run in this morning and start the new week out right. So glad I did…

~miles~2.9 (I thought I had been doing 3, but mapmyrun said otherwise…)

*song of the day* Run Kid Run “My Sweet Escape”

Aug. 22, 2009

Playing catch up again… I ran today as well as two other days this week. Can’t really remember which ones, but I ran 3 miles each time, and then only 1 today as I was a little sore. I think I need to start some weight training here soon.

*song of the day* Paul Wright “From Sunrise To Sunset”

Aug. 14, 2009

After yet another lazy week I finally got the okay from my Dr. to resume normal physical activity again. Of course I immediately went for a run. Surprisingly it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, and it felt good to be up with the sunrise.Β  Ahhh….it’s nice to be back!

*song of the day* Blue October “Graceful Dancing

Aug. 6, 2009

I went for a short morning walk with Pitter yesterday before it got too hot. I think I got in at least one mile. It’s something I suppose… I am still doing yoga and am getting the girls involved in my workouts. We did gymnastics and dance today and are going to do some cheerleading leaps and jumps tomorrow. That should be sufficient enough to kick my butt. πŸ™‚

I found a coached swimming class that I want to start in Sept. We’ll see if baby will be ready for me to break away for a couple of hours by then.

*song of the day*Muse “Uprising” (my new fight song! can’t wait for the new album)

July 31, 2009

It’s been too long since I updated and now I don’t remember what days I walked now. I do know it’s been over a week though! Being the only adult around is harder than I expected. I did walk/run 2 miles a while ago, and have been doing yoga and sit ups all week, so I guess that’s something.

I’m well out of maternity clothes, but not even close to fitting into my regular clothes, so I have some serious motivation now to get back into shape. Let the real workouts begin…

*song of the day* Coldplay “Strawberry Swing”

July 18, 2009

I’m starting to remember why I used to run off to Utah every July now…it is TOO HOT here. I got a late start today so I shortened my walk. I didn’t want to leave anyone with a hungry baby too long!

*song of the day* God Help The Girl “Come Monday Night”

July 17, 2009

I have walked a few times since baby was born, but I don’t really count once around the block as exercise! πŸ˜‰ I guess every little bit counts! Today and yesterday I actually really worked. One miles yesterday and three today. It was hot, and surprisingly pretty easy. I don’t think I could’ve done over that, but I think three miles a day sounds about right!

~miles~3

*song of the day* Franz Ferdinand “Call Me” (Blondie cover)

June 20, 2009

Only walked for real once this week on Monday. Felt…okay. It’s always good to walk of course, but it’s getting a little painful. I think I may attempt an early morning walk tomorrow, just to clear my head…

June 11, 2009

Wow. It’s been a long time! I’m home from vacation and have only taken a walk to the park. I did go walking a few times while in Utah, but I’m getting to the point where it’s a LOT of work to move! Only a few weeks left…

*song of the day* Gavin Rossdale “Forever May You Run”

May 17, 2009

Playing catch-up today. The only day I walked this weekend was Friday and it was HOT! I let the kids run through the sprinklers at the park right after our walk. I almost ran through myself, but they went off right after we got there. πŸ™‚

I watched The Chronicles Of Narnia with the kids this weekend and LOVED this song at the end. Beautiful…

May 14, 2009

So, it takes a really long time to walk 3 miles when you are used to running. I kept wanting to speed up today, but then my body reminded me that it’s not possible at this time. πŸ˜‰ Still, it feels great to be out listening to my music and enjoying my hour with nothing else to do.

*song of the day* Adam Lambert “Mad World”

May 12, 2009

I was up early again today, but this time I actually took advantage of the cooler weather and went walking. It got hot pretty quickly, but not as hot as it would be for me at 9am pushing two kids in a stroller. I find I do much better with an early night and early morning. Wait, isn’t that healthy or something? I used to know about all those things… πŸ™‚

*song of the day* Carolina Liar “Show Me What I’m Looking For”

May 7, 2009

Super short walk today, but it was good to get out. It was already 90 degrees by 9am. Yep, summer is here. Good thing I have all this extra weight to keep me warm. *sigh* It’s temporary, right?…

~miles~0

*song of the day* Silversun Pickups “Panic Switch”

May 5, 2009

I think I got more of a workout digging that ginormous hole in the sand with the kids at the park than I did on the walk, but I’ll count it! It’s getting harder to get myself going these days and I’m not sure if it’s the heat or the pregnancy, but I am seriously wiped out. Maybe it’s because I’ve been a slacker with exercise. Hmm… yeah. Could be that.

~miles~1

*song of the day* Keane “This Is The Last Time”

May 1, 2009

I haven’t walked since Wednesday night, but I’m not sure if you could call it a workout. It was only a mile and I was trying to keep 10 girl scouts from running in the road. Fun times…

Isn’t it supposed to get easier everyday? Wow. I’m so out of shape. I turned on the fitness channel yesterday and couldn’t even imagine myself attempting the exercises that were on. Only 2 months left, then maybe I can start over…

~miles~3

*song of the day* Stacie Orrico “More To Life”

Apr. 27, 2009

What a slacker I have been with walking AND keeping track! I don’t remember when I went last, but I did go today and could tell that it had been a while. I didn’t walk at all with relatives in town for a week, but I have no excuses now so it’s time to get going again!

~miles~2 or 3

*song of the day* 311 “Hey You”

Apr. 15, 2009

It was almost chilly outside today. Of course, for me that means it was probably low 70’s! πŸ™‚ I’m such a baby! For walking the temps were great, but sitting and watching the kids play at the park was too cool. I’m just happy that I’m not a sweaty mess just walking outside. That weather will be here soon enough.

~miles~3

*song of the day* Estelle “American Boy”

Apr. 10, 2009

~miles~0

*song of the day* Reverend And The Makers “Open Your Window”

Apr. 9, 2009

Two more days of walking behind me! I’m pleased with my consistency so far this week. What I’m not pleased with is how hard 2 miles feels. I find it hard to believe that I was running 5 or 6 miles every day and find it even harder to fathom that I will, or maybe I should say could be, to that point again someday. Oh well. It feels like progress and that’s all that counts!

Apr. 7, 2009

I did walk yesterday and today, but I think only today’s was over a mile. (It’s really hard pushing two kids in a stroller in the wind!) I need to get up earlier tomorrow and walk. It’s getting harder to push the stroller with my ever growing belly, and it’s getting warmer! Summer is not far…

Apr. 1, 2009

Last two days I have either been sick, or had a sick kid. But today was much better and I actually got a walk in. I was not a long one, but I don’t think I could have done much more without being in poor shape later! Weather was perfect and even had a cool breeze. Nice.

Walking this morning felt great, so I didn’t push it and try to run. I learned my lesson this time…I think. I saw many runners out this morning and was pretty jealous though. I can’t wait to be training again!

~miles~3

Mar. 27, 2009

I’m such a dork. Running after not doing anything for over a week made me pretty sore! Ooops! I will keep trying, but after I do lots more walking and maybe some lunges and squats first. I need to get my muscle tone back before I attempt more running again, though I want so bad want to jump right back in… *sigh*

Mar. 25, 2009

Well, my getting up early plan didn’t work yesterday. I stayed up late watching Twilight with J, and went to bed way too late! But this morning I actually did get up to walk. I didn’t get up early enough to get an hours worth in, but I felt really great and even attempted running a little. I didn’t make it very far running, but it felt great to work my lungs out like that. The rest of my body…it didn’t like the running so much. I’m going to try again tomorrow and see if I can get a little more distance this time.

I have to say, it was so nice to break out my shuffle again and listen to my old running songs…

Last night’s walk was great! The full moon was so bright that we didn’t need our lights at all. I didn’t walk over the weekend because of this cold I got, and I hoped that last night’s walk would help clear me out even more, but I’m starting to think that it’s allergies and not a cold at all. I woke up SO stuffy again in the middle of the night…grrr!

Feb. 27, 2009

Today we went quite a bit further and thankfully it wasn’t as hot as yesterday. I’m starting to feel things ‘tighten up’ again (in a good way) and even though I wish I were running, at least I can tell that walking is helping to keep me in shape! Now I just need to stay this consistent!

Last night was a no go, too tired after Girl Scouts. Today we switched and tried morning walking again. As long as I bring snacks and water for my two in the stroller, they seem to stay relatively happy. We walked, picnic-ed at the park and spent the afternoon getting wet in the backyard. Fun day, but I need to get the sunscreen out next time. We are all a little bit pink!

Feb. 23, 2009

No walking over the weekend. Too busy! I did start up again tonight though. The weather here has been pretty warm (mid 80’s in the day) and the nights are ideal for getting out to exercise. I haven’t walked for a bit, but am definitely getting my workout from the non-stop yardwork since Saturday. Between Jake, his mom and me, we moved 8 tons of sand from the driveway to the sandbox! I think all of the shoveling and raking is helping my pesky love handles! lol! I’m feeling pretty strong lately with all of this work so I think after I’m done with the yard I’ll keep up my progress with weights! We’ll see anyways… πŸ™‚

~tons of sand~lots!

Feb. 12, 2009

Today was chilly, but sunny, so I’ll take it! πŸ™‚ Only had time for another quick walk, but it feels so good to just be active again! I made the mistake of shoveling too much sand though and don’t think I’ll be up for walking or much of anything tomorrow. (oops!)

Feb. 9, 2009

Had a great walk today and got to ditch the kids with my MIL. I know I walked at least one more day last week, but I don’t remember which day or for how long. I am counting Saturday’s yard work as a workout day! A big one!

Feb. 4, 2009

Well, it’s been a while since I have run, but I did try to walk for a while today. It was really warm and felt great, but my kids were not so thrilled. They didn’t want to walk, ride in the stroller, ride bikes or scooters. I ended up cutting it short and hope that tomorrow they will be a little more tolerant of their mom’s try at getting some exercise…

~miles~hmm. not sure. hopefully at least 2

Jan. 21, 2009

Haven’t been able to run for two days because of J going into work early, but I’m hoping to get in a few more runs before the end of the week. Who knows, maybe I’ll even be ready for 6 miles by the time London’s Run comes around…

~miles~0

Jan. 19, 2009

It was a little harder getting up this morning for a run knowing that I didn’t have to get up and get M off to school, but I did go on a run, if you could call it that anyway. I felt more like I was waddling/fast walking, but hey, I worked up a sweat and got some exercise in. It’s all good with me…

Jan. 17, 2009

I finally got a Saturday ‘long’ run in. Only this run wasn’t so long. Still, I’m feeling pretty great about getting out twice in one week. I have never really run while I was pregnant before, so I’m really curious to see how long I can keep it up. I’m not going to shoot for high mileage just consistency.

~miles~3

Jan. 15, 2009

I’m happy to say that I actually got out of bed early today and went for a short run. Really short, but I was happy nonetheless!Β  It convinced me that I am capable of running while pregnant, so as long as I’m feeling good(and Dr. says okay) I’ll be doing lots more of this! πŸ™‚

Jan. 9, 2008

This running log may turn into any sort of workout log for the next 6 months. I’m not really sure how much running I’ll be doing through this pregnancy, but I’m still going to try! The only thing I have done for the last three weeks was one day of sit-ups and lunges (which I was so sore from) and then a short yoga session.

My morning sickness seems to be subsiding and I’m getting the itch to workout again. Anyone have a great program for pregnant women? Please share!

Dec. 16, 2008

Barring a miracle, I won’t be running this week, or maybe even next week. Somehow I was lucky enough to injure my back on Sunday night and spent all day Monday in bed, or my bathtub or the couch trying to rest and stay comfortable. Today it’s only my upper back that is throbbing, but since I can barely sweep the floor, I think any workouts are out of the question for a while…

Today I went on my first long run in a long time. Boy, have I missed those! My 7 yr. old really wanted to ride her bike with me today, so it took a little longer than I would have liked to, but I was really proud of her for sticking it out and going that far with me and my friend. I just might have to take her again sometime…

I got creative today and was able to go for a mid-morning run w/out kids. It felt so good to get a decent size run in and it actually was quite warm. I wore yoga pants and a mesh long sleeve shirt and really should have worn shorts! I love me some AZ winters! πŸ™‚

Dec. 8, 2008

So…..the 4th was the last time I have run. Yeah. I’m slacking in the running dept. BIG TIME!Β  I was planning on going on a long run on Saturday but instead I ate leftover pad tai and brownies and did lots of sewing. Hopefully this running log will actually have some logged runs soon. πŸ˜‰

Day number 2 of running for the week. It was another quick one, but I need the sun to come up a little earlier which isn’t going to happen forΒ  a while. Today at least felt really good, I really wanted to keep going. I think I’ll venture out a little earlier tomorrow.

Yay! I finally went for a run in the morning. And I didn’t even hurt too badly. Of course it was barely over a mile or so, but still… Sometimes it just takes getting back out for one day and then the routine can begin again. It felt really good to be out in the cool crisp air. I think I’ll have no problem going again tomorrow! πŸ™‚

Nov. 23, 2008

J’s grandma has been staying here, so I’m a little off schedule. I was too sleepy to run this morning and have a feeling I’m catching the cold that my kids have. Bad timing with Thanksgiving and all. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into more than the sniffles… πŸ™‚

I really should have done a long run after the wings and pizza I had last night, but instead I attended a race/food drive for a local boy’s Eagle Scout project. It was much more fun than a 10 miles solo run, but I’m going to have to make up for it sometime this next week!

I didn’t run this morning, but only because I ran twice yesterday! Jspin stayed home from work and I got to sleep in AND run! Heaven! I went too late (9:30) and it ended up being a pretty hot run. I even took a cool shower…

In the evening I went to the track and stumbled through 2 miles before my friends convinced me that going to Coldstone (an ice cream parlor) would be a much funner birthday ending than running a couple more miles. They were right…smart friends! πŸ™‚

Nice quick run this morning! It was pretty cold, well, long pants long sleeve T-shirt cold, so I guess not really that cold. I ran it all under 10 minute miles which is better than I thought I would do for not running for almost a week, but I need to get my consistency back! …ready and go!

~miles~3

Nov. 17, 2008

So it’s Monday and I haven’t ran since last Wednesday. I’m feeling it too! This last week was SO hectic and I have a feeling every week until Christmas is going to be much like it. Better luck tomorrow.

Nov. 13, 2008

Last night’s track workout didn’t seem like it would be rough; drills, 10 min. warmup, 1 miles timed (fast), 4X800 with a 400 recovery in between. I did my mile in 8.5 minutes which wasn’t my best, but I was pretty pleased anyway. The rest of the 800s wore me out though, which means I need to do this workout more often! No running yet today, but I may try and get an evening run in later.

The group long run fell through, but I still went on a mid morning solo run. It felt much easier than last Saturday, but that’s probably because it was 20 degrees cooler than last time week!

I was surprised to feel like I could have run forever as I have been a major slacker in my running consistency. If I would have thought of taking a gu or power bar with me I think I would have ventured out a little further. Next time…

Last night’s workout at the track:Β  4 minutes @ your 10k pace, 2 minutes @ your 5k pace, one minute @ crazy fast speed (or one mile pace). Now, repeat FIVE times! I did get up early this morning, but ended up sewing a costume and getting my 2nd grader all set for her Halloween day. Don’t know if I’ll be able to fit a run in. I didn’t get up to run yesterday, thinking that I would go to the track. That didn’t happen. So now it is Thursday and I’m just getting in my first run of the week. *sigh* It was nice to get in a short but quick run. The next two running days WILL happen!

Looks like I got a little behind again. It’s been another busy month, especially with my little jaunt to Utah, but now that I’m home I’m anxious to get back into my routine.

Yesterday I talked my sister into doing yoga and belly-dancing, and we also went to the track at night. This was the first time I had ran in over a week! The first mile or two was rough, but by the last 800 C and I were running at a great pace and my body thanked me for getting it going again! πŸ™‚ Today no running, but I think sis and I will be trying some yoga again today and a long walk!

Oct. 16, 2008 (posted by j)

Good Morning and Happy Thursday! Here’s the song I was going to post yesterday. This is another band that I recently discovered. I think I read somewhere that they’ve already broken up, but holy cow– this is good. I was starting to think that I was the only one in the world who never got enough of the ’80s. I can’t be sure, but I’m willing to bet the good reverend had more than a few Duran Duran albums as a kid. Seriously, there are moments in this song that he sounds EXACTLY like Simon LeBon. Soooooo good. K hasn’t heard these guys yet, but methinks she will approve!

~miles~0 (well, for me anyway. . . will update later if K runs today!)

Oct. 15, 2008 (posted by j)

I had another song picked out for the video of the day, but since K already twittered about it, and since this is HER blog, I supposed I ought to post it for her. Am a well-trained hubby, aren’t I? And if I didn’t post it, well, you know. . . what goes around comes around right?

Oct. 14, 2008 (posted by j)

It’s cool in Phoenix, cold in Salt Lake City. One of the only good things about K being away is that I do get more time than usual to check out new music. And guess what? There’s some SERIOUSLY good stuff coming out lately. Case in point, an incredible new album by Keane called ‘Perfect Symmetry’. This track could have been a hit in 1986. Their singer, Tom Chaplin, has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. If you’re not blown away by this song, there is something wrong with you πŸ˜‰

I was out the door by 6 this morning for another short-long run and it was COOL. I was so surprised. I thought fall would never come! Of course cool to me is like low 70s, but I’ll take it! I decided during my run that it was too nice of a day to spend inside, so we’re off to the zoo for the day!

Only a short quick warm up run this morning (mostly because I woke up really late), and then I did a really hard workout with Gilad. Well, he was on tv and I was in my living room, but it still kicked my butt! and my shoulders, and abs, and thighs…I need more of that! Lots more!

~miles~1

Oct. 2, 2008

Last night I tried to stay in my heart rate zone for my workout (now that I know what it is) and I was surprised to find that even though I had to push myself more than I normally would, I could still talk without a ton of effort. I guess that means I’ve been taking it too easy on myself for too long. πŸ™‚

The workout itself was ladders, strides and these funny skipping sort of drills. I felt like a dork, but it made the tops of my thighs burn, so I feel like it was helping something. The only bad thing about running hard at night is that I’m completely wasted in the morning.

Tomorrow I am going to force myself to get up early for a solo run. I may need a wake up call though!

~miles~6 (last night)

Oct. 1, 2008

I swear the older I get, the faster the time goes. What happened to September? wow…

Last night a friend and I went to have our Vo2max levels tested. ( >VO2MAX is an abbreviation for the maximum amount of oxygen your body is capable of using to make energy) Basically, you start running on a treadmill at a comfortable pace and the test administrator keeps increasing your speed until you think you are going to die reach your max oxygen intake or or max CO2 output, or something like that, all while you are wearing a mask over your mouth and nose. Yeah, it was tough, but the hard part only lasts about 12 minutes.

Then they give you a read out of what your heart rate should be for different workout zones and also what range you should try to stay in according to the type of training or race you are doing. I didn’t understand all of it, but our running group is starting to train with heart monitors, so this test should be really helpful. Can’t wait to try this out!

Didn’t run yesterday (as usual) so we’ll just skip it…

Today I got to sleep in for a half hour extra. I walked out into sunlight which was a really nice change. Every Saturday is now ‘officially’ long run day. There were only three of us this time, but I know as we get closer to the race dates more with join in. I wasn’t sure I would even wake up this morning to run since I got home late last night, but I made it an easy 3 miler, so it wasn’t too bad. I am really glad I got up and ran too as I have had lots of great energy today and am getting lots done! Love it!

This last track workout was a hard one, but I ate earlier in the evening and ate light, so I didn’t have any stomach issues like last week. What a busy and tiring weekend! After my long run on Sat. J and I did about 2 hours worth of weeding and raking, getting ready to plant a garden. We were SO sweaty and hot by 10am that we had to stop. I think because I came home and worked instead of sitting on my duff, I kept my muscles from cramping up and being sore. Sept. 8, 2008

I didn’t run Sat. or Sun. so I’m not going to go back and update…too much to do.

Today’s solo run was especially tough and HOT! That banana half I ate at 5:15 wasn’t quite enough for a run that started at 8:15. I had plenty of water before I left though, so at least I had to pee really bad as I was 2 miles from home! oops!

J was right today…I did need a solo run. Even though it took forever, I feel like my mind cleared with each step. In fact in was so clear that I could concentrate on every ray of hot sun onΒ my shoulders and the uneven, rocky ground under my feet. It doesn’t sound enjoyable, but it made me appreciate the slight breeze every few minutes and the occasional tree I passed under. Overall, a pretty good run, though I did walk half a mile of it!

Today was painful! I don’t know if the heat is getting to me or what, but I somehow managed to trudge out 5 miles and felt pretty good by the end. It must be time to boost up on vitamins and such. I’m sure some weight training would also get me back on track. Ah, more work…

  • song of the day* The Shadow Puppets “Meeting Place” Just discovered this band today. They definitely have an old sound, but I found myself listening to a few of their songs. Not too bad.

Sept. 3, 2008

We’ve started running a little later so I haven’t seen many sunrises lately, but the weather is getting milder and I do like running in daylight. Less chances of scary animals/people!

Sept. 2, 2008

I need to be better about updating on time…sorry about that! Holiday weekend=much busy-ness! Hope you all enjoyed the time off too!

Got to run with 3 women today which was so nice. Makes the time go quick when there’s lots of talking going on. I love it! Now I just need to add a long run sometime this week and it will be like old times…

Aug. 31, 2008

Sunday. No running, but here’s a song for the day…

Aug. 30, 2008

Stayed up way too late last night and got up late. I was planning on running and having a productive day, but instead it’s been only semi-productive, at least it was semi. Pretty nice and mellow day anyway which is nice too.

Aug. 29, 2008

I broke the 5 mile mark today! I know it’s not a big feat, but it has been a while. After my run, I went swimming with the kids and then went home and took a nap! I can’t seem to get enough sleep lately! πŸ™‚

~miles~5

Aug. 28, 2008

Super humid this morning! It was hard getting out of bed today, but my run felt strong. It felt like the pace was a little quicker today, so either my partner and I were both having a good running day, or we just wanted to get it over with faster! Either way it was good. Sunrise was gorgeous too…hot pink.

~miles~4

Aug. 27, 2008

After my alarm went off this morning at 5, I saw lightening out my window so I turned off the alarm and got back into bed. A little while later I awoke to really lound thunder and the pounding of rain. I just layed there listening to the storm thinking about how good that extra hour of sleep was. Ahhh…

~miles~0 *update* ran 3 miles at night!

  • song of the day* Incubus “Drive”

Aug. 26, 2008

It rained most almost all night and it felt so nice this morning to be in the somewhat cooler air. I also counted about 15 baby frogs in the gutter…what is it with me and frogs lately anyways? πŸ™‚

~miles~4

  • song of the day* The Cab “I’ll Run”

Aug. 25, 2008

I ran at 9 this morning and it was way too hot! But it did feel good to get moving today and it felt even better when I jumped in my friend’s pool after the run! Heaven! Remind me again…why didn’t I put in a pool?

~miles~3

Aug. 24, 2008

Didn’t update or run yesterday but I did get up at 5am anyway. Why? Because I am insane!

Today I actually slept in until 9 and it felt soooo good! I just found out that my marathon is 24 weeks away and training is officially starting. Nervous about actually having a trainer, but really excited at the same time! Apparently the trainer is like some crazy-world class athlete and I am…not. at all. Hopefully with her help I’ll cut some serious time off my race. Hopefully I don’t die in the process…

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Travis “Sing”

Aug. 22, 2008

Slept right through my alarm today. I guess I needed the sleep. I was going to take tomorrow off, but I might have to sneak a short one in now. I’m pleased that I at least got 4 days in so far this week. Don’t know how I’m going to get going on this marathon training, but I have done it before! πŸ™‚ Happy Friday!

~miles~0

Aug. 21, 2008

This morning was a little darker than yesterday and I know it’s just a matter of time until we’re running in the dark again. I love that it means cooler weather, but running in the dark is not really my favorite thing ever.

Doing solo runs in the fall and winter are almost impossible as well and sometimes a good solo run is needed for clearing my mind. Have to say it’s been really nice to start my day with friends and being able to bounce thoughts off each other. It seems to get my focus in the right place before I go home and launch into the busy parts of my day.

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Muse “Feeling Good”

Aug. 20. 2008

I crashed last night and forgot to set my alarm, but amazingly I woke up anyway. Still surprised about that! My late nights have to come to an end as I now have 2 kids to wake up and get ready for school. I welcome the changes. Change is good, right?

~miles~4

Aug. 19, 2008

Two days in a row…not too shabby! Getting up today was a lot easier and so was the run. I think I may have even ran a couple seconds faster per mile. (baby steps! πŸ™‚ )

~miles~4

Aug. 18, 2008

Went out of town for two days and didn’t update or run…just sat by a pool, read and ate some yummy seafood. The break was short, but nice. Now I need to get organized and ready for another busy week.

I did get out for a run this morning and it was pretty painful. Not in a sore muscle way, more like I wanted to be in my bed asleep way. I’m happy to have my regular running friends getting back into the running routine so I know I have no reason to miss a day. My goal this week is to run everyday…wish me luck!

~miles~4

Aug. 15, 2008

No running partner this morning, but I was not deterred. The sky was beautiful, it was just cool enough and I had at least half an hour to get a workout it. Though I only got 5 hours of sleep (d*mn vampire novel!) I got a short run in and feel much better for it!

I pushed hard the last half mile and now I REALLY need a shower…have big drips running down my back. I’m sure you all wanted to know how gross I am right now. Jspin was nice about it saying I was “shiny”. That’s one way to put it…

~miles~3

Aug. 14, 2008

I should actually be running right now, but it is pouring outside! I went out this morning and probably still would have run if there wasn’t so much lightning. The rain felt great, but I decided against being electrocuted today.

Love that it’s raining and all, but I really wanted to get a longer run in. I’m still in workout clothes, so this might be a good morning to get my weights out…it’s been a while.

~miles~0

Aug. 13, 2008

Really wanted to sleep in, but I did get up and at least get a short run in. I felt like a slug for most of it, but I’m just easing myself back into the whole training thing again.

I have a meeting tonight for our newly formed running club that is actually an offshoot of a neighboring club. The other club is a competitive group whose runners run about 5 minutes faster than I do, so I have a feeling the workouts are going to kick my butt! I’m ready…bring it on!

~miles~3

Aug. 12, 2008

So much for being consistent! Kids kept me up most the night, so when I almost cried when the alarm went off, I thought it best to not go running on no sleep again! Now I’m thinking that it was a wise decision…

~miles~0

Aug. 11, 2008

After much grumbling, I did in fact get out of my cozy bed and stumble outside to run. Knowing that I had 2 friends outside waiting made it a little easier. Just a little.

Good short run with good friends. Gorgeous sunrise too. I sure have missed those these last few months. Friends and sunrises! Feels like today will be a good day…

~miles~3.5

Aug. 10, 2008

So it’s midnight and I just realized I hadn’t updated my running log…I hate that! I’m trying to be all consistent and such! Speaking of consistent, I better get to bed so I will actually get up to run in the morning! I will run, but I sure will need a nap tomorrow!

~miles~0

Aug. 9, 2008

Went to bed way too late to get up and run. Again. I really am going to get back into it. Really. Going to go swim in a bit here, so I’ll try and tread water the whole time and maybe make up for some of my lazy ways!

After watching some of the Olympians I really want to go to a gym too. I’m always inspired watching these amazing athletes! (as I sit on the couch eating whoppers and sour-patch kids!) Oh well, a day at a time.

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Ok Go “Do You What You Want” I don’t listen to enough of this band…must change that.

Aug. 8, 2008

I got up to run this morning, but when no one met me I decided to go back to bed. Oops! Should have stayed up and ran, but sleep felt oh so good today! Must get in a somewhat longer run tomorrow. I can’t remember the last time I ran over 6 miles…must try.

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Beck “Jack Ass”

Aug. 7, 2008

I’m back. Officially.

Went running for the first time in this crazy heat, crazy early and I didn’t die. In fact, it was just what I needed. I had a huge attitude adjustment yesterday and decided that I wouldn’t let myself get off track anymore. A big part of that is making sure that I get my running time in. It’s such a big part of my mental health and I could use all the help I can get right now!

I’m feeling pretty good today, so I’m going to take some baby steps back into life again.

~miles~4

July 28, 2008

I know that I’m looking like a slacker to all of you, but I swear I would be updating more if I could !

I did actually get up and run today, and Friday (but that was at the gym on a treadmill which = boring!) and that’s about it for the last 6 days. I am going to get my butt kicked when I try to get back into my 5am everyday running routine again. I’m sore just thinking about it, and also excited to not feel so soft anymore!

I am sad that it’s my last week running in Utah…and playing in Utah…and seeing friends in Utah…

~miles~5

  • song of the day* Pinback “Fortress”

July 22, 2008

Really? July 22 already? I’m still technically on vacation though I am back in Utah now and I’m sure that the adjustment back to reality in two weeks is going to be more than a little tough! This summer has flown by and I think J and I realized how much we miss living near family. We love our little Arizona world too, but someday I know we will be living at least a little closer.

Today was painful trying to run! I ate too much and sat too much on our trip and I now feel like I’m starting over with a workout plan. Though it was hard today, it did feel good to get my body moving again. I also needed the endorphins too. I’ve got that summer is almost over melancholy going on…

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Jem “Come On Closer”

July 17, 2008

Wow. I’m way behind on this! I ran today for the second time on this trip and discovered a cool little neighborhood that’s right on the river. Well actually, in the river! SO cool. I’m going to go back and take some pictures soon. (of course!)

Fireworks were good last night, but I missed K and the kids really bad. Went to Tempe Beach Park with K’s aunt and uncle. They’re empty-nesters so I think they enjoyed having the company as much as I did. Sounds like K had a good time with the kids watching stuff blow up in the sky. Here’s an unapologetically guilty pleasure type of song. I will note for the record that K does not listen to this kind of stuff. Ohhh, but I do!!! I am what Arnold would call a ‘girlie man’.

Happy 4th everyone! Here’s a song in honor of the day, ‘Miss America’ by David Byrne (formerly of the Talking Heads and my favorite artist in the world). What could be more American than watching an awkward white man sing and dance around in a hot pink/black plaid kilt? I do truly love this country!!

Yeah, so you know what sucks? Well, it’s that almost every single band I want to post on here– the ‘bumper bands’– weren’t ever big enough to make a video. La Crapppa!! I’m like scouring YouTube to find these bands and, at best, coming up with some crappy Sony Handycam video that your little brother sneaked into a show in 1991. So in this light of this disturbing pang of reality, I’m scrapping the bumper band concept. So much for parading my esoteric musical snobbery . . . well, maybe. But forunately in this digtal age, the internet seems to have become the great ‘equalizer’ in terms of exposure for musicians. Here’s a song from an artist who, without the internet, may never have gotten to be heard by so many people! (the singer happens to maintain an incredibly insightful blog as well . . . enjoy)

Here’s a song from an unbelievably talented– and understated band– Big Country. They are originally from Ireland, but relocated to the ‘States (Nashville, TN) after MTV helped them get big. Haunting side note: I was in Nashville on Dec. 16, 2001 when Stuart Adamson, their singer, committed suicide in a hotel room in Hawaii. The next night in the lounge of my hotel, I met a journalist from Stuart’s hometown in Ireland that caught the first flight to the U.S. when he heard the news. I talked to him for probably two hours about his childhood memories of goofing around with this iconic singer. It was a sad day in music . . . Don’t know why I’m thinking of that now, but here’s a particularly beautiful song that was written just a few years before his tragic demise. Rest in Peace, Mr. Adamson.

Here’s a song. I didn’t have a Steve Perry bumper sticker, but I totally would have if he made them. I’d like to think that I had a ‘Journey’ iron-on patch on my whitewashed grey Levi Jacket, but I’m not entirely sure that’s true either. Anyway, I love Steve Perry because, even though his lyrics could be compared are ofthen the musical equivalent of a Hallmark Card, you CAN relate to them. Plus, he sounds SO good when he sings, it just doesn’t matter. But ANYWAY . . . I don’t who Steve had in mind when he wrote this song, but whoever he was, I’m sure he got the message LOUD and CLEAR . . . or at least one would hope. It’s July 1st! Yay! Happy July!!

I talked to K last night and it sounds like she and her sisters are having a ‘good move’. The song today comes at K’s request. This is No Doubt’s cover of ‘Its My Life’ by Talk Talk. I love this song and the video is hilarious. Should I find it ironic that the video my wife asked me to post features a girl-gone-bad who seduces–then kills– men? Hmm. I doubt she’s even seen the video, but I think I’ll avoid the bathtub for a while!!

Happy Friday! K told me about this song. It’s a new, very quirky, very catchy tune from an artist named Yael Naim. Listen to this one a couple of times because it will grow on you. It’s irresistable and clever– just like the girl who requested it ; ). Here’s to a great weekend!

Since K had no special requests, I get the pleasure of indulding in another ‘bumper band’ favorite! I had absolutely no idea there was a video for this. Some of you might remember Urban Dance Squad; they had one hit, ‘Deeper Shade of Soul’ that was all over the airwaves here in the States for a while in ’89. . which . .was . . ahh . .a really long time ago, wasn’t it? Okay, so maybe you don’t remember. But moving right along . . .the song below was my favorite U.D.S. track. I CANNOT believe this song was written 20 years ago!! It still sounds incredibly fresh to me, but then again I’m a music geek. If you’ve never heard it, I think you’re in for a treat!

It’s Wednesday which means it’s hot in Arizona. . . .or . . well, no. I mean, it’s hot, but not because it’s Wednesday. Right, so anyway. Talked to K and she’s doing great in Utah. Today’s ‘Wordless Wednesday’ of course (I’ll have to remind her) and I know she’s taken at least 3453 photos so far. I’m sure there will be at least a few that are worth 1000 words or more πŸ™‚ Speaking of K, she happened to request a song for today, so my bumper band idea gets pushed off yet again. Here’s another of the ‘best of the bumper’. I’m not sure if K remembers this one specifically, but she probably heard in my car about 3000 times. Good summertime music. It reminds of me late night skateboarding in parking garages, downtown SLC. I just can’t believe this over 15 years old!! K and I are getting on in years. *sigh* Actually, I really couldn’t care less. 32 seems just as good to me as 17 did- so far anyway! Happy Monday, everyone. Top of the morning to you! Since I’m going to be doing these updates on K’s behalf, I’ve been trying to think of songs to use when K doesn’t have a specific request. So I was just reading back through yesterday’s update and I got my idea for a playlist! Remember how I said I had a Green Day bumber sticker on my ’86 Civic? Well friends, Green Day was just one of dozens of bands for whom I provided free advertising! (yes, I was a punk rock dork. Kind of always will be . . .) So that’s my playlist for the next week or so. Bands from jSpin’s Bumper. Now, I should note that I am well aware of whose blog this is, so I promise to only use songs from bands I know that K likes/did like (or at least didn’t totally hate). The first band on my list, Shudder To Think, is one I almost forgot about. They should have been huge, but still have quite the cult following. ‘Red House’ is a beautiful (to me) song, and it reminds of summers in Utah. Approprate, yes? Totally.

Happy Saturday, everbody. I talked to K this morning and she’s having a great time in Utah. This morning she and her mother took the minispins to the annual ‘Strawberry Days’ parade in Pleasant Grove. They spent the rest of the day frollicking in the green, summery wonderfulness of her Uncle Tomato and Aunt Sherpa’s acre-plus backyard. Speaking of green, here’s some Green Day. Excellent music for summertime frollickers. When K and I started dating, I had a Green Day bumper sticker on my ’86 Civic. I wrecked that Civic, but that has nothing to with anything.

Another nostalgic run today. I keep sleeping in and even though I’m running at 9am or later, the heat doesn’t really bother me. In fact, I think I’m starting to prefer it.

Being back home is nice, but I kind of feel like John Cusack in Gross Point Blank; like I’ve been gone so long but everyone else who is still around hasn’t. Now I just need Minnie Driver to hang out with me so each time I run into people from my high school she can whisper their names in my ear. That would be handy…

June 18, 2008

Yesterday was my first run for the week. I ran past my old elementary school as well as the houses of my childhood friends. I haven’t lived in this area for five years and it’s been nice to check out all of my old haunts. It’s good to be home…

Another good run today. It wasn’t quite as long as I wanted, but I think I will do the same run tomorrow to make up the difference. I made the mistake of eating super greasy food last night and my body fought back this morning by giving me side aches and general queasiness. Just so you know, that doesn’t go well with the heat…

Even with the ickinessI had a good strong run along lots of dusty desert roads. There is talk of a freeway taking out half of our neighborhood. If so, I will have now choice but run along it or over it to get out of my neighborhood. I can’t imagine the overall effects it would have on this area. and I’m hopingan alternative route is used. The countdown begins, only 5 days until I pack up my three kids and leave for Utah for 6 weeks. I’m so not ready for this. At the same time, I’m more than ready for the mental break. I need to do some serious work…

I am going to make sure and get lots of running time in this week just in case I have a short break at the beginning of my vacation. I don’t want to lose my momentum. I think I may also join a gym while I am there. I forget how convenient everything is in that city. I’m definitely ready for that.

I have really slacked overall in my workout routine, so starting yesterday I’m back to beingstrict withmy workouts and food choices. I’m not far off of my weight goal, but I need to stay focused. I was planning to do a century this fall, but my friends are trying to convince me to do another marathon instead. Hmmm. Choices…

It felt great when I started running, but it got hot fast! I had a great solo run and felt better than I have in a while. I would’ve run a lot further, but Grandma was home asleep with the kids and so I didn’t give in…besides, tomorrow is my long run day and I don’t want to overdo it.

I think I need to go out and wash the car or take the kids swimming. We’re back to 100 degrees again. Actually I’m glad. The colder temps last week were hard to take! πŸ˜‰

May 27, 2008

It felt good to get out and run today and just get back to a normal routine. I seem to be at my best when I have a regular or at least consistent schedule. I like to know what to expect from day to day. At least when it comes to working out that is.

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Jason Mraz “The Boy’s Gone”

May 26, 2008

I was going to run today, and probably should have, but when no one else woke up to go I decided to climb back into bed for a couple hours. I ended up sleeping in until 10. I can’t remember the last time I have slept that long…I must have been long overdue.

It’s not very warm today, but supposedly we’re going to the lake. I guess water skiing can count as my workout today. I’m really excited to try wake-boarding. It’s on my list after all…

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Finger 11“Paralyzer” Very cool video. Enjoy.

May 25, 2008

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here in the desert. Doing nothing right now but picking a song of the day while sitting in my robe and letting others make breakfast. Nice…

~miles~0

  • song of the day* No Doubt“Sunday Morning”

May 24, 2008

Very strange dreams last night, I was almost relieved to get up. It’s was still overcast and cool but thankfully we didn’t get rained on today.

I’m desperately trying to get all of my cleaning and laundry caught up today. I’m hoping to have the entire house MIL visit-ready by tonight so I can relax the rest of the weekend. Tuesday she’ll be here… Must. Stay. Focused.

~miles~3.25

  • song of the day* Coldplay “Shiver”

May 23, 2008

I woke up in a panic when my clock said 7:01am, until I remembered that I was not running today and I promptly fell back asleep for a whole ten minutes. Eventually I got up to get Big M ready for her last day as a first grader. Very exciting stuff!

I almost wish I would’ve gotten up and ran in the rain because now I’m still super sleepy and want to get back into bed. I hate that! I just might give in and take a short nap…we’ll see.

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Echo And The Bunnymen “Ocean Rain” (it’s a slow-y) I forgot how much I loved this band. So hard to only pick one song! Almost went with Rust, another great one…

May 22, 2008

It’s only 8:25am and I have already ran my 10 miles and got my 1st grader off to school. Only got chased by 6 dogs today, it was overcast and cool, so overall a nice long run. Two friends went as well and the hours went by quickly.

I have the whole day now to play and do…something. It’s pretty windy and rainy, so it will have to be mostly an indoor day. I want to explore, maybe a museum or shopping day or a drive. Indecisive? yeah.

So this song of the day was hard to find…the real song doesn’t start until the 1:13 minute mark, so be patient withit. I swear it will be worth it! Ever since I did my post yesterday I haven’t been able to get this song out of my head! Maybe some of you will remember it. Enjoy this blast from kspin’s past…

~miles~10

  • song of the day* PM Dawn “Reality Used 2 B A Friend Of Mine”

May 21, 2008

What happened to May? Time seems to fly by lately. Only three days until school is out and then it is officially summer!

It didn’t seem as hot today, and tomorrow is supposed to be quite cool, which is great as we are planning on doing our long run then. I should probably just plan on doing another marathon later this year, my training hasn’t really dropped much and it would be pretty easy to start right up again. I need something to look forward too as well.

~miles~4.3

  • song of the day* Usher “Caught Up” I needed one of my old hip hop songs to get me going today!

May 20, 2008

Instead of staying up to clean or do more online car-hunting, I crashed at 930. I’m realizingsleep needs to be more of a priority. I’m realizing a lot of things need to be more of a priority… πŸ™‚

Running is getting a lot harder with the heat. I’ve had to start carrying more water and it seems like I have to push myself just to keep a non-embarrassing pace. And wow! am I sweaty when I get home! Yuck. Good thing that school is almost out so that I can come home from my 4am runs and go back to sleep. Can’t wait.

~miles~5

  • song of the day* Coldplay “See You Soon”

May 19, 2008

Back to feeling old again today. I need to get back into a good sleep schedule again; a month of late nights has taken it’s toll. It was really hard to start running this morning, but by the end the heat and sleepiness didn’t bother me. It only took me 4 miles to feel awake…

It’s supposed to be 107 today, looks like it might be time to start the 430am running schedule again. Thinking about that makes me want to go back to my hotel and sleep some more! πŸ™‚

~miles~5

  • song of the day* Maroon 5 ft. Rihanna “If I Never See Your Face Again” Time for more Adam…it’s been too long!

May 18, 2008

I woke up this morning on my own at 630am and felt completely rested, even after goingto sleep at midnight. It must have been the amazing beds at the resort; love feather beds/comforters! I tookmy book and sat by the pool all morning sipping orange juice and enjoying the sound of a small waterfall. There were only a handful of people out this morning and I read in complete serenity. Heaven. Srsly…

~miles~ -500. I think I took off a couple of years too. I now feel 28-ish.

May 17, 2008

Today was super hot, even at 6am. I am a little sore from ice skating last night so the run was somewhat painful, but I’m so excited about my day at the resort that I didn’t even think about how much the run probably sucked. In fact, I should really go do a thousand crunches this morning before I go! πŸ™‚

See you all tomorrow!

~miles~8.5

May 16, 2008

Today I tried to run, but ended up being freaked out by suspicious subjects wandering the neighborhood. Not so fun. I’m glad I didn’t go out alone today and I don’t think I will again unless I take a cell phone and mace, yikes! I wish I would’ve gotten a longer run in, I’m feeling kind of ‘off’ now. I’ll have to make up for it tomorrow morning.

~miles~2?

  • song of the day* Pink “Who Knew”

May 15, 2008

4 and a half hours of sleep is not quite enough. Stranger Than Fiction was on last night and I couldn’t turn it off! (love that show!) I dragged myself through my three miles way too early, and then did my meager weight workout. I’m just glad I actually heard the alarm at all today! A half-a**ed workout is better than none, right?! πŸ™‚

Today is my husband’s birthday so he is taking the day off to do something. Not sure what he has in mind yet, but I’m sure there will be some relaxing involved. Here’s one of his favorite songs to help start his day…

~miles~3

May 14, 2008

I got up and ran and because I was such a lazy butt yesterday, I immediately came home and showered so I wouldn’t put off really starting my day. It was pretty cool this morning and I even wore a jacket for the first mile, but I just got back from the park and it was hot enough to let the kids run through the sprinklers. (but I didn’t this time)

Yesterday was cold and wet, and now today is perfect and sunny. This week is just full of surprises…

~miles~6?

May 13, 2008

I slept in today which was not a huge surprise after getting to sleep after midnight. I still went running and ran into a friend that I haven’t seen since she ran the Boston Marathon. Turns out she did not have a great race and is just now dealing with all those built up emotions. Sure sounds like what I was writing about last night…

Arizona is beautiful today with blue storm clouds and a wind that carries the scent of newly trimmed sage. Smells SO good outside. I think I’ll eat my breakfast on the patio today.

~miles~4

May 12, 2008

Another good run today. This is the week for me to get back into a good workout routine again. Today is just running, abs and yoga. Tomorrow is running, weights and pilates. Friday and Saturday I know I’ll be in a swimsuit all day and that thought alone is all I need to stay motivated! πŸ˜‰

Happy Monday everyone!

~miles~3.5

May 11, 2008

No running on Sunday. Sometimes I would really like to run on Sunday, but…you know, Sabbath and all! πŸ˜‰

This morning was really nice and calm. Kids and hubby made me a nice breakfast and some cute cards. Nothing exciting, but I did have a very good interview that made me feel more optimistic about my life. Thank goodness for inspired people who are more in-tune than I am. Today’s been a good day…

~miles~millions

May 10, 2008

Almost stepped on a coiled up snake this morning. It was dead, but still made me jump about 5 feet! I need to start watching for those I guess. Yikes!

Feeling pretty good today. I’m planning on doing a little re-arranging and a lot of cleaning. Usually this is stuff I put off, but I need some mindless yet productive time like this. Maybe I’ll even go get some paint for my house. Don’t want to live in a beige world anymore.

~miles~5

May 9, 2008

Today was less torturous getting out of bed. Maybe it helped that I actually went to bed before 11. Someday I’ll learn. Today my body wanted to keep going, but I was with friends who all wanted to do a weight workout too, so we cut the run to give us some time.

I really need the extra workouts with all of the junk I have eaten this week. I seriously ate every bit of chocolate in our house. (not to mention the half of the jar of peanut butter!) I’m done with that now, and am ready to start eating and living like I should.

~miles~3.25

  • song of the day* James“Say Something”

May 8, 2008

Was planningon a long 8 miler today, but my body is not cooperating. I think I have had 4 mini periods in the last two weeks…very strange. I guess it could just be stress, but it’s not convenient and I’m ready for it to stop, thank you very much! Sheesh!

Still ended up being a good run even if the last mile or so was a little forced. I’m glad I am still getting out of bed and running. Makes me feel like I have control over something, even if it is just running…

~miles~7.5

May 7, 2008

I feel more human today. I had a really long, much needed conversation with my sister yesterday and life doesn’t feel so impossible today. I don’t know why I always think I can handle things on my own, clearly not the case.

~miles~5

  • song of the day* Screaming Trees “Nearly Lost You” (totally selfish flashback song for me)

May 6, 2008

What a strange week. I had to run a little earlier this morning and I still don’t feel quite awake yet. I did do a short weight workout and was surprised that it didn’t seem too bad considering how weak I feel today. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be doing both workouts without all the fatigue. Crossing my fingers…

~miles~4

May 5, 2008

I think this is the first time I haven’t updated my running log. Weird. I didn’t run over the weekend as I was away at girl scout camp, but today I had a good run with a friend. I’m still waiting for that relaxed feeling after coming home, but I think I was calmer being away. Maybe I need a solo vacation…

~miles~6

May 2, 2008

Got up this morning and just ran. Don’t really know how far I went or how fast, only that I was gone for over an hour. I wish I could take my running shoes camping with me this weekend. I could sure use more long solo runs.

~miles~5?

May 1, 2008

I am so sick today. I didn’t go back to bed until 3:30 am. Whole body aches. Need to sleep…

~miles~0

April 30, 2008

I finally got a decent sized run in today. It still wasn’t very fast, but it felt good to do a longer distance. I’m ready to start pushing myself more, so next week it’s back to track nights and speed-work. Can’t wait!

~miles~5

  • song of the day* KT Tunstall “Hold On” Very fun video. I like it almost as much as the song! Enjoy.

April 29, 2008

I just finished a short run and a short weight workout and feel like crawling into bed and going back to sleep. I won’t of course, but sleeping the day away in a comfy bed sure sounds good right now! Instead, I’m goingto do exciting things like laundry. Yay.

~miles~2.5

April 28, 2008

I ran withan old runningpartner and had a nice walk/run. The weather is perfect at 5:30am and I hope that it will stay this way for at least another month!

April 27, 2008

Today is not going to be a lazy Sunday….too many places to go. All good places though. πŸ™‚

I heard this song last night as I sat eating chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory. Both were really good…

~miles~0

  • song of the day* Nina Gordon “Tonight And The Rest Of My Life”

April 26, 2008

I took too long to leave the house today and it was pretty hot when I started to run. I didn’t have any running goals today, so I just took my time and did a very SLOW 4 miles. Today felt more like a time out than a workout, but I sure need those once in a while! Happy Saturday everyone.

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Bush “Comedown”

April 25, 2008

Today was only a short run because I pulled myself out of bed a little late. I went to bed at 10, which is early for me, so I’m not sure why I couldn’t get up. I feel much better now and I’m ready to shower and start my day. I’m a little sore from the whole 20 lunges I did yesterday (pathetic), so I’m thinking I need to fit in some yoga today and maybe some ab-work.

~miles~2.5

April 24, 2008

I feel great this morning! I finally got up for a run and it was just what I needed to clear my head and re-energize. I keep having this line from a kids movie running through my head. . .”today is a new day”. It truly is, isn’t it? Good morning everyone.

~miles~5

  • song of the day* Morcheeba “Enjoy The Ride” I know, random video and such. First time hearing it.

April 23, 2008

Didn’t sleep at all last night. No running today.

~miles~0

April 22, 2008

I don’t feel half as tired as I did yesterday. Maybe it’s because I actually got up and did something today. πŸ™‚ The weather is awesome today. Very soon it will be toowarm to be outsidea lot with the kids, so this is going to be an outdoor activity week for sure! Time to go buy new swimsuits for the fam!

~miles~3 (walking)

April 21, 2008

No running today, but I think I might actually try to tomorrow. (just long enough to loosen the muscles) I feel pretty good so I’ll give it a try. I am pretty tired from the trip, so today I’m just going to chill with my kids and do as little as possible.

Here’s a song from an artist that always reminds me of Utah. Enjoy!

Today is a good day– it’s the day K comes home!! Her marathon was a total success– she finished in 4 hours and 35 minutes and really wasn’t even sore this morning. (She told me that means she just should have pushed harder). That’s K for you . . .

I’ve had a great weekend at home with the miniSpins, but I can’t wait for her to get back. When Kspin’s here, the air is sweeter, the sun is a little brighter, and all of life’s little ‘pieces’ just seem to fit better. πŸ™‚

HEY EVERYONE, SHE DID IT!! πŸ™‚ I talked to K a few hours ago, just minutes after she finished the marathon. She sounded vibrant, strong, and happy! I’ll let her give you the details, but it sounds like she did awesome. Here’s to K!

  • song of the day* Rare Earth “I Just Want to Celebrate”

April 18, 2008 (posted by jSpin)

Tomorrow’s the big day! I spoke to K a couple of times today and she sounded good, relaxed. I think she’s bothmentally and physically prepared for the marathon tomorrow– probably even much more so than she thinks. She asked me to post something kind of low key and mellow for the VOTD. That was easy. No one does mellow with more style than Morcheeba. Here’s ‘Blindfold’ from their Big Calmalbum. I doubt she’ll see this before the race, but I’m sure it will send her some nice subliminal chillout vibes during her pre-race sleep.

Good luck tomorrow K! Remember that J and the miniSpinsare always with you my love. Sleep well, run fast, and always believe in yourself. Nighty night.

K arrived safe in SLC late last night and all is well. 2 more days to race day and it looks like the forecast is calling for much better weather than we originally thought. In light of this good news, I chose an appropriate song from one of Kspin’s favorite bands, Duran Duran. I was surprised that she hasn’t used any of their songs for the Video of the Day yet . . . (maybe she didn’t tell you she’s had a crush on Simon since she was about 6 years old!). Here’s to sunny skies and springtime in Salt Lake!

April 16, 2008 (posted by jSpin)

Hi there, KSpinners . . . jSpin here. Well everyone, K’s on her way! She left this morning on her roadtrip to Utah to spin run her little heart out. (She was gracious enough to allow me to maintain her blog while she’s gone.)

Whenever I think of roadtrips, I always think back to the summer of ’97 when K bought her very first ‘new’ car. It was a cute Pontiac Sunfirecoupe. We LOVED that car! The week she got the Sunfire, the Mighty Mighty Bosstoneshad just released their album, ‘Let’s Face It’. There was something about that album sounded sogood on her car stereo, so we listened to it nonstop that summer. Good times– a fast car built for two, sunshine, roadtrips to Vegas, young love (aww!), and the Bosstones. What more can you ask for?! Here’s a track from that album. . . we heart you K!

April 15, 2008

I am feeling a little more prepared to not only run the race, but leave my house. I was up and ready to run super early and now my day is trucking right along! There is still a lot to do, but it all feels manageable! I think I’m finally ready.

  • song of the day* Colin Hay “Waiting For My Real Life To Begin”

April 14, 2008

I had a great run and workout this morning. The first mile was really slow, but by the last half mile I was sprinting and it felt good. I feel like I’ve really let my cross-training go, but doing weights this morning didn’t kill me so I guess that’s a good sign.

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Weezer “Island In The Sun”

April 13, 2008

My knees are surprisingly sore after such a short run yesterday. Maybe it’s all in my head… πŸ™‚ No running today as I usually don’t workout on Sundays, but I think I am going to take a really long walk this evening to give my legs a good stretch.

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday too.

April 12, 2008

Wow. One week and I’ll be running26.2. It has been 3 years since since I ran my first marathon and I’m beginning to have those pre-race jitters. Last night I dreamt that I forgot my race bib and the race officials wouldn’t let me run. The day before that it was my shoes… I think the nightmares will continue until Sat! πŸ™‚

I left a little later thank I should have today, and it was pretty hot. Utah’s weather might just be perfect for a marathon after all. We’ll see.

~miles~10

  • song of the day* Jason Mraz “I’m Yours” I have used this song before, but this video wasn’t available before. It’s a nice one, you should watch it.

April 10, 2008

I feel a thousand times better today. Well, maybe only ten, but the key is I am feeling better. Cold is down to only sniffles, and I feel like I have energy to push myself this last week. I know this is the time most people taper, but I really want this race to be my best.

~miles~4

  • song of the day* Joe Anderson “Hey Jude”

April 9, 2008

I’m starting to get nervous about the marathon. Because of my cold, I have been totally lazy and my cross-training has all but stopped. I did get out for a short run this morning, and I’m not going to shower until I get a weight workout in. I really want to get back to the point I was at a few weeks ago. I guess I’ll start now!

Had a great run this morning. Had a hard time getting out of bed because of late night blogging, but survived. πŸ™‚ 10 days left! The countdown begins!

I went on a field trip with my daughter today and had a great time. This song of the day is for her, it’s one of her favorites.

~miles~4

April 7, 2008

My head is fuzzy today. I think I’m getting the start of a head cold/sinus infection and I CANNOT afford to be sick this close to my race. I’m popping pills and eating everything I can with vitamin c, in hopes that I can shake it. Time will tell I guess.

April 6, 2008

No running, just some new music to enjoy. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

April 5, 2008

I got a late start this morning due to a sick boy keeping me up. It was super hot, but the run itself was not totally unbearable. All of my friends are injured or sick so yet again another long solo run. I don’t mind so much. The time to meditate and reflect is always welcome.

April 3, 2008

Wow, two days of running in a row! I can NOT go that long without running again. I just don’t function properly without it! I did a short solo run today because I slept in, but I needed to break in new running shoes, so it worked.

I feel alive again today and I’m ready to tackle all that lies ahead. I wonder what will come next after this race for me? I’m excited for the possibilities!

Mar. 31, 2008

I’m a single mom this week so my running may be on hold until Thursday. Unless I want to run 5 miles while pushing a double stroller in 80 degree weather of course. Hmmm. I’ll have to make sure and get a lot of walking and cross training in I guess.

I booked my plane ticket last night and I’m so excited to go ‘home’.

~miles~0

Mar. 30, 2008

It’s still Saturday night, but knowing that I’m not going to run tomorrow (today), I thought I would update now.

I hope you all enjoy your Sunday, and while you are relaxing (hopefully), you should check out some more music from this artist I chose for the song of the day. He had a song called “Days Go By” that was popular a while back, but this one sounds nothing like it. I really like the diversity in their music style. Great stuff. Check it out.

*song of the day* Dirty Vegas “Walk Into The Sun”

Mar. 29, 2008

I don’t think I could’verun today after dancing with a million girl scouts and their moms last night at a pjparty. I forget how tired you are after dancing! Especially when you are doing silly line dances like “cha cha slide” (which I actually really like) and the chicken dance.

I think the dj forgot the audience that he was playing for as some of the songs were a little too adult for our 6 to 10 year olds. I don’t know, maybe Fergie is a good role model for girls….she does wear a g.s. uniform! πŸ™‚ I do have to admit, this song is pretty catchy. Good running or workout song anyway.

*song of the day* Fergie “Fergalicious”

Mar. 28, 2008

I did my long run a day early and it’s so nice to know I’m done for the week! I talked my ‘newbie’ running partner into doing my first 8 miles with me, which ended up actually being 9, and she breezed through it like the trooper that she is. I got to stop at home to refuel and then went for my last 7 with nothing but my music.

Now I’m on my patio with my cinnamon oatmeal squares, my laptop and my kids playing near me. It’s going to be a bright beautiful day.

*song of the day* Lily Allen “Don’t Get Me Wrong”

Mar. 26, 2008

I had a nice run but felt distracted the whole time. All of the plans I made all winter are now upon me and I’m not sure if I am ready for everything. I wonder if it’s just the anticipation of completing another major goal. I just need to think positive and remember all of the things I have learned from past races and apply those things now. Isn’t that what life is all about?

~miles~6

*song of the day* Dave Matthews Band “Satellite”

Mar. 25, 2008

Wow, where is this month going?! My sick running partner is now my injured running partner. We tried to run 7 miles this morning and had to walk the last half. She is the last one still running the marathon with me so I’m hoping this is something that will heal…crossing my fingers.

I have already ran, finished my morningcore workout and ate breakfast. I guess I can do something fun and relaxing now today. Hmmm. Any ideas?

It is so nice to get started on my weekly workout routine again. I look forward to my early mornings and the prospects of a new day. It also helps that Arizona is gorgeous right now. Mar. 22, 2008

My running partner is sick and the idea of a 16 mile solo run didn’t sound so fun to me at 6am. I opted for an 8am tempo run instead and it kicked my butt! I couldn’t slow down though because I didn’t want to miss the egg hunt! Now I’m going to shower and relax…

Here’s a relaxing song to finish off my surf/beach/island music week. Hope you enjoyed it!

~miles~8

*song of the day*Jem “Wish I”

Mar. 21, 2008

No running partner today, so I had to wait for the sun to rise before I left. I did a short run and didn’t take my heavy water bottle holder and ended up ditching my jacket behind a shrub. Sometimes I forget how free it feels just to run without all the extra baggage…

It’s going to be a sunny day in AZ and it is already hot at 8 am. (for running anyway) Summer is officially here. Better start those sit-ups!

~miles~4

*song of the day* Sublime “Bad Fish” Yet again, another good beach song but crappy video. My apologies.

No running today.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Israel Kamakawiwo’ole “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”

Mar. 19, 2008

I had a sort of decent length run today but I really need to be doing longer distances all the time. My energy level is a little low, but that could be from staying up too late. I need more sleep! Maybe just a vacation…to a beach!

~miles~6.6

*song of the day* Jack Johnson “Better Together”

Mar. 18, 2008

I can tell that I didn’t stretch enough yesterday, and those extra leg-lifts were probably not a great idea. I am so stiff today that it is hard to go up and down the stairs. I need to be more careful with my cross training. Only 31 days until the marathon…

I have decided that it will be surf music or ocean video week. I’m due for a visit to the beach, how about you?

~miles~4

*song of the day* 311“Love Song” Ok, this one might not be a beach song, but it reminds me of my time in Hawaii.

Mar. 17, 2008

It was a killer to get out of bed today, but after a short run and a date with some weights I feel almost human. The soreness that I thought I had avoided hit me today. . .time for some stretching. I think I’ll make it a mellow day with surf-music and lots of yoga. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Good morning everyone.

Oh, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

~miles~2

*song of the day* Porno For Pyros “Bali Eyes” No, I don’t like cats. This is the onlyvideo for this song. Don’t watch, just listen. Srsly.

Mar. 16, 2008

I love Sundays. Sleeping in and moving slow. All good things.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Maroon 5 “Sunday Morning” I know I have used this song before, but this is the perfect day for it. Enjoy.

Mar. 15, 2008

Today was the perfectday to run. The high was only 70 and there was a light cloud cover the entire morning. We ran Userywhich is usually hopping withother runners and bikers, but was nice and quiet today. There were only two of us and we bothhad one of our personal best runs. It’s so much easier to run withsomeone who matches my pace and doesn’t expect that we will ‘chat’ the whole time. Overall, I am sore but very pleased with the run. Sometimes I come home thinking that I could have done more, but this was my best 20 miler I have ever had.

~miles~20

*song of the day* Sugar Ray “Someday” I really wanted to do Heaven, but alas, no video. This is still a good one!

Mar. 14, 2008

This morning I ran for a 2 mile warm-up and then did a nice, kind of short, weight workout. It felt so good to do a bench press. It had been so long that I didn’t even put weights on the bar! Embarrassing. I have lost a lot of my strength and I am now determined to get it back. I didn’t want to overdo it today because of my long run tomorrow, but I can’t wait to hit it hard next week! Maybe if I work hard I can look like Christina….ok, maybe not.

~miles~2

*song of the day* Christina Aguilera “Ain’t No Other Man”

Mar. 13, 2008

Last night’s track workout was incredible! I don’t think that I had been really pushing myself to see what I really could do, and last night I was running my little guts out! A couple of times I thought I would have to stop to throw up but thankfully that didn’t happen. I don’t know if running Ragnar has made me more aware of what my body is actually capable of, or if I feel like I have something to prove to myself, but either way I feel like I have something to fight for.

I was so worn out this morning that I didn’t do my 5:30 run. I don’t feel bad one bit! I’ll still do some cross-training and maybe some walking tonight and will just fine about skipping one running day!

~miles~0(today) 5.5(last night)

*song of the day* DHT “I Can’t Be Your Friend” Okay, about this song. I have wanted to do this one for a while, but all the videos are seriously lame. This was the least nauseating. If anyone can find a better one, please let me know.

Mar. 12, 2008

I had such good dreams and sleep last night. I love those nights when you wake up and know there is more good things to come, so it is a pleasure to get out of bed and start your day….

~miles~5.5

*song of the day* Jack Johnson “Angel”

Mar. 11, 2008

Today was another great run. I am running with a fairly new runner and though it is a little slower I don’t feel like I am dragging. I will have to sneak in a couple of solo runs to work on my speed, but that’s what track night is for right?

~miles~6.7

*song of the day* Gwen Stefani “The Sweet Escape”

Mar. 10, 2008

Today I was up at 5:15 getting ready to run. I grabbed my water bottle and had a couple bites of my zone perfect bar and headed out. It’s getting lighter in the mornings which is great because I’m starting to run at 5:30 now. In about a month or two I’ll have to move it to 4:30 because of the heat. I’m not so excited for that! I have 39 days until the marathon, so this summer won’t involve intense training like last year, but I may start biking…..

It’s supposed to be 80 degrees all week and all I can think of is summer, so I thought I would share one of my favorite summer songs.

~miles~5

*song of the day* Will Smith “Summertime”

Mar. 9, 2008

I really cut back on my running this week but I have been eating the same and it is NOT good! I feel like a beached whale! Tomorrow I start weight training and I can’t wait.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Coldplay “Trouble”

Mar. 8, 2008

Today has been strange. I got up and ran at 6am here on my own stomping grounds. I ran, went home, ate oatmeal, did a crossword puzzle and mopped the kitchen all by 10am. Lately my Saturday runs involve driving for an hour to find a ‘hill’ and then running forever and getting home between noon and 2pm. This is such a nice change. I was on such a roll cleaning, that I just remembered to take a break to update!

Here’s one of the songs that I’m jamming out to while I clean! Enjoy!

~miles~10

*song of the day* Timbaland Ft. Justin Timberlake “Release”

Mar. 7, 2008

I didn’t run again today. Weird. I did do two toning workouts yesterday and yoga so I still feel pretty good. Tomorrow I must run. It’s amazing how much I miss it when I don’t go regularly, though I think my body has been happy for the break.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Pink “Get This Party Started” (good weekend starter song!)

Mar. 6, 2008

I tried something new today. I got up and did a weight training workout on fitTv. It was only half an hour long, so I may have to do another one today to count as a real workout. But it’s a start.

I think I’ve played all of the artists on Stephanie Meyer’s list that I like. The others…well, not so much. Back to my own pickings! πŸ™‚ Here’s something from my college years.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Paul Westerberg “Can’t Hardly Wait”

Mar. 5, 2008

Tonight is track night so I had the morning off again. Scary as this thought is, I’m starting to not like sleeping in. I do much better when I get up early and run right away. There must be something wrong with me! πŸ™‚

~miles~0 (so far)

*song of the day* Linkin Park “Bleed It Out”

Mar. 4, 2008

Running today was freezing! Of course it would be in the eighties during the race, and now we have a cold spell. It really did feel good to get and run despite the cold. I wanted to go for a longer run, but had to get back to get everyone off to work and school. Maybe tomorrow.

~miles~3

*song of the day* Muse “Bliss”

Mar. 3, 2008

Only walking for this chica today. I am feeling a little more human today, but I am so stiff that I almost tumbled down the stairs this morning! I’m leaving to go walking now so we’ll see if this helps!

~miles~2?

*song of the day* Travis “Big Chair”

Mar. 2, 2008

I lived through Ragnar. Barely.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Blue October “Calling You”

Mar. 1, 2008

If all goes well and our timing is accurate, I’ll be running at 1:14 am and again at 10:55 am. These are going to be the rough ones! This is where I see if I in fact worked hard enough…

~miles~6.9 and 5.5

*song of the day* Coldplay “Yellow”

Feb. 29, 2008

It’s not really the 29th yet, but I will be without access to my pc, but I know what and when I’ll be running, so why not do it now? I’ll be running in Wickenburg today at about 11:40 am, probably out in the middle of nowhere. Can’t wait!

~miles~5.9

*song of the day* The Strokes “You Only Live Once”

Feb. 28, 2008

Last night all of my running friends got together to ‘bling’ up our shoes and visors for the race tomorrow. Wow, we are all a crafty bunch! Who knew? I was up way too late so I didn’t get up to run, but I’ll be doing plenty of that soon! Wish me luck!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Gomez “Whippin’ Piccadilly” (awesome video)

Feb. 27, 2008

I think I ‘m officially over the cold or whatever I had. Running felt good today and now I’ll just take it easy until race day! 2 days left!

The last 2 days and now for the next two weeks, I am using songs from artists that are on Stephanie Meyers’ list of bands that she thanks at the end of her books. She seems to have the same taste in music as myself so I thought this would be a fun way to find new music.

~miles~5

*song of the day* Jack’s Mannequin “The Mixed Tape”

Feb. 26, 2008

I am still baby-ingmyself so I didn’t run today. I do feel like the chest cold is letting up so I should be back to it tomorrow. Today is going to be a play day at the park.

Only 3 days left….

~miles~0

*song of the day* Marjorie Fair “Empty Room”

Feb. 25, 2008

Today my body hates me. It was harder to run this morning than my 15 mountain miles on Saturday. My lungs were really tight and I feel a cold coming on. I think I’ll pop some vitamins, some Airborne and try to take it easy today. I can not get sick this week!!!!

~miles~5

*song of the day* Elbow “Fallen Angel”

Feb. 24, 2008

I heard this song last night at a resturaunt and I had to look it up when I got home. Sometimes Alanis’s voice bugs me, but this cover is brilliant and she sounds great! Hope you all like it!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Alanis Morissette “Crazy” (Seal cover)

Feb. 23, 2008

I didn’t get home from running until 1:45. Long story, but there was a cancer walk going on at south mountain. Needless to say there were many people, dogs, strollers and us. Pretty cool, but lots of obstacles.

I have been thinking of my old hip-hop class and the dance to this song is the only one I can remember. Miss that class…*sigh*

~miles~15.5

*song of the day* Ciara ft. Missy Elliot “1,2 Step”

Feb. 22, 2008

Rest day and exactly one week until the race. I’m getting worried, I talked to someone who did this relay and said it brought her to tears. She is also a marathoner, so I guess it’s not the actual running, more of running with no sleep, alone in the desert, etc. What did I get myself into?

~miles~0

*song of the day* Kanye West “Stronger”

Feb. 21, 2008

After running the track last night I wasn’t sure I wanted to get up again and go again this morning, but I had promised a friend that I would meet her. She wasn’t there this morning, but I did a short one alone anyway and actually feel better than I probably would have if I slept in….I think.

~miles~3.5

*song of the day* One Republic/Timbaland “Apologize”

Feb. 20, 2008

Nice solo run this morning. It was almost warm enough to ditch the vest I was wearing. I hope the weather is this nice for my race next weekend!

~miles~3.3

*song of the day* The Beatles “Here Comes The Sun”

Feb. 19, 2008

I feel great today. Not only did I get to run, but I also did a 2 mile walk with many other women with strollers. Sorry if you had to drive in our neighborhood today while we were hogging the road! πŸ™‚ Beautiful sunny day in AZ!

~miles~7

*song of the day* Jason Mraz “I’m Yours”

Feb. 18, 2008

If I run today, it will have to be at night. My stomach is doing flip flops and I think I’ll take it easy until I know if I am sick or not.

~miles~0 (so far)

*song of the day* Coldplay “Fix You”

Feb. 17, 2008

I got to nap and read yesterday. . .and that was about it. It was so great! I am now onto book 3 now and I was amazed how much I loved number 2. There was SO much in it that I could relate to. In the credits, Stephanie thanks the bands that help her with inspiration and there was Travis, Muse, The Fray, etc. No wonder I love the books!

~miles~0

*song of the day* The Fray “Over My Head”

Feb. 16, 2008

I got sucked into book #2 of the Twilight series last night at went to bed at 1am! Not a great idea because I had to get up and run at 5:30. There were only 2 of us for this early morning run, but we seem to run at the same tempo so I got to run at my own pace.

We were able to chat the whole run until the last 3 miles when we on busier roads. It was as great as running 20 miles could be I guess. So far I feel great am not that tired or sore. We’ll see how I do the rest of the day and tomorrow!

This song was playing when my alarm went off this morning. I remember going to see this band while I was in high school, and I seriously don’t think I have heard it since then! Enjoy!

~miles~20!!

*song of the day* School Of Fish “3 Strange Days”

Feb. 15, 2008

TGIF!!!

I was pleasantly surprised this morning to hear pouring rain on my roof when my alarm went off at 5:30. I quickly changed it to 7:00 and fell right back to sleep. I think it’s a sign to take a break today. I should with my first 20 miler coming up tomorrow! Wish me luck!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Frou Frou “Holding Out For A Hero”

Feb. 14, 2008

Today was the prettiest sunrise I have seen for a long time. It looked more like a sunset because of all the pink and orange colors. By the time I got home from running it was too light to get a good shot, so at least I’m writing it down so I will remember.

This morning was a little windy, but not as bad as it was last night. I was so pleased with myself at the track. I ran most of my ‘ladders’ in under 8 min. miles, which is really fast for me. I think the last 4oo-meter and 200-meter I was at 7min. 40sec. This morning I took it easy and just ran @ about a 10 minute pace. It felt good after pushing so hard last night.

This is the last love song of the week. This song is from the Across the Universe soundtrack, and I love how they put the new song with the original Beatles video. The new video is on Youtube now as well if you want to see it. Enjoy, and Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

~miles~3.5

*song of the day* Jim Sturgess “Something”

Feb. 13, 2008

Tonight is track night, so no morning running. Good thing too because I was sleepy today! I think I will try something new and update this after I go to the track. It is my running log after all, right?

~miles~4.5 (until tonight) updated

*song of the day* Imogean Heap “Goodnight And Go”

Feb. 12, 2008

I only needed my jacket for the first mile. I love that! I love that until it’s 90 degrees at 7am, but for now it’s been a really nice change. It’s definetly a park day today!

I have used this song before, but I’m not sure if anyone really listens to the songs anyway so I guess it’s ok. Good love song!

~miles~5.6

*song of the day* Ingrid Michaelson “The Way I Am”

Feb. 11, 2008

Nice short run this morning. I think this might be the last week of short ones. I have been lazy about my weekday mileage and I should probably be doing a minimum of 5 each day. I guess I better step it up!

One of the best songs ever written. . . enjoy!

~miles~3.3

*song of the day* Keane “Somewhere Only We Know”

Feb. 10, 2008

I didn’t incur any injuries or sore muscles from yesterdays run. . .except for this wicked sunburn on one side of my neck! That’s going to look real pretty at church! Time to break out the sunscreen!

I don’t run on Sundays, but I like to update and add a song anyway. I think this week will all be lovesongs to celebrate Vantine’s Day! (It’s Thursday for all the men out there that read this and may forget)

~miles~0

*song of the day* Norah Jones “Come Away With Me”

Feb. 9, 2008

I limped the last mile but I still feel pretty good! I was starting to feel like my marathon trainingwas lagging, but I am right on track with my goals. I am hoping to beat my last SLmarathon time by 20 minutes. It’s a little ambitious but I still have 60 something days of training left! If I do this I’ll finish right around 4 hours and 20 minutes. (or 4.20….ha ha!) I think I’m delirious! I better go eat some real food now!

~miles~18

*song of the day* Blue October “Into The Ocean”

Feb. 8, 2008

Tomorrow calls for 18 miles on my schedule, so today is a rest day to get ready for that. It seems awfully early to be doing 18, but this is the same schedule I followed while preparing for my other marathon, so I guess I will do it.

It makes me tired thinking about it!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Theivery Corporation “Lebanese Blond”

Feb. 7, 2008

In case you were wondering, doing eight 800-meter runs @ a 5k pace, and eight 200-meter sprints kick my butt! Just so you know. (last night’s workout)

This morning I was still tired from the track last night, but it felt good to have a normal easy run to get me going. It was a little warmer today and it supposedly will hit 70 degrees this weekend, so I’m going to try to be outside as much as possible!

~miles~4

*song of the day* Travis “Hit Me Baby One More Time” I think I actually like the cover more than the original! He does a beautiful job!

Feb. 6, 2008

Tonight is track night, so I got to sleep in this morning! I only have 23 days until my race so I am needing to stay consistant with my training. I felt great after my run yesterday, so I’m pretty sure my injuries are gone. I can’t wait to see how I do with my tempo work tonight!

~miles~4 (later)

*song of the day* Donna Lewis “I Love You”

Feb. 5, 2008

It was so hard to drag myself out of bed today, sleeping felt too good. I did finally force myself to get up and get dressed and I hurried out the door to get a quick run in. I was thinking I would take it easy, but I don’t think my body and mind were cooperating with each other. It was a short run, but it felt like I was a new runner again. I guess taking a week off will do that.

Here is one of the first songs I ever ran to. . . since I am starting over.

~miles~2.9

*song of the day* Franz Ferdinand “Take Me Out”

Feb. 4, 2008

Of course because I really want to run today it’s pouring rain! These are the days when a treadmill would be really handy! I am staying in my workout clothes so I will at least do yoga or some other workout!

~miles~0

*song of the day* REM “The One I Love”

Feb. 3, 2008

Oops! I almost forgot to update today!

I spent the day with my mom before she flew out this evening. No runningtoday, just church, visits with family and picking oranges. Mmmm.

~miles~0

*song of the day* The Shins “Caring Is Creepy”

Feb. 2, 2008

I went and watched some of my friends do London’s Run this morning at Schnepf Farms. It was so nice to be able to cheer for all of them as they crossed the finish line! This run is for a really great cause, so you should check out the links!

I felt like a proud Momma with her kids! Not that I am the one responsible for my friends’ progress, but I have watched each one of these women work hard to reach their own personal goals, and our group goals. Working with them has made me a better runner and a better person in general. I couldn’t ask for better friends.

~miles~0 for my injured self!

*song of the day* Maroon 5 “Must Get Out” Don’t worry, my Maroon 5 high will wear off soon and I will add more variety! For now, just listen and enjoy! πŸ™‚

Feb. 1, 2008

No running, but my leg is getting better. I danced all night and felt great, but now I feel hung-over! I think I got 3 hours of sleep….but I still have a smile.

I think this is one of my very favorite Maroon 5 songs. Adam sang it last night and it was even better live! Enjoy.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Maroon 5 “Won’t Go Home Without You”

Jan. 31, 2008

Exactly one monthto my race and I have a pulled hamstring. Great. It still is sore today but not as bad. A weekend of rest sounds pretty good right now. . . for my leg too!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Sean Paul “Temperature”

Jan. 30, 2008

I didn’t get to bed any earlier, but I at least got up and tried to run. I only made it about half a mile and then my hamstring started to ache and I had to stop and walk. I haven’t ran since Saturday so I am hoping that my muscles are just tight from then. I’m supposed to go to the track tonight, so I’ll do a lot of stretching and just hope I’m not injured!

~miles~.5

*song of the day* Jem “Wish I”

Jan. 29, 2008

My sister and I stayed up until 2 decorating the house and shopping for my daughters birthday. Needless to say, I did not get a run in today. I’m going to have to really force myself to get to sleep at a decent time tonight!

~miles~0

*song of the day* No Doubt “Trapped In A Box”

Jan. 28, 2008

No running this morning, it’s pouring rain today. I just hope it doesn’t last all week, I need some sunshine.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Linkin Park “Shadow Of The Day”

Jan. 27, 2008

I was hoping to sleep in and take it easy this morning, but I ended up being awake with a sick baby most of the night. Better have a calm pretty song today. Enjoy.

~miles~0

*song of the day* U2 “Miss Sarajevo”

Jan. 26, 2008

Today was going to be a nice 10 mile run, but I got a little carried away and it turned into 14. I just can’t stop sometimes!

This is the first day this year that I actually got really hot during a run. I’m glad that I dressed in layers. It was only 45 degrees when we started, but it was almost 70 by the time we all finished. There were six of us today and it reminded me of training last fall. I have missed the camaraderie with the girls!

Great run, great friends.

~miles~14.2

*song of the day* Alkaline Trio “Mercy Me”

Jan. 25, 2008

I tried to stretch a bunch yesterday to help ease the pain. I had relief in the fact that I didn’t have to run this morning! Just walking and resting up for another long one tomorrow!

There is a club version for this song, but I couldn’t find a video for it! Still a good song. Enjoy!

~miles~0

*song of the day* The Lovemakers “Prepare For The Fight”

Jan. 24, 2008

All I can say today is OWW!!! I went to the track last night and did 4 miles of ‘tempo’ work, and also sprints (which I love!) Then got up this morning and went 4 more miles. But I was not fast. At all. My body hates me today. I think I need a hot tub!

~miles~4

*song of the day* Jack Johnson “Broken”

Jan. 23, 2008

It took getting up twice to get a run in today. I was supposed to meet a friend at 5, but apparently she slept in. I didn’t want to run in the dark alone, so I went home and got back into bed for a couple hours. I didn’t mind that part one bit. It was much harder dragging myself out the second time, but I got a run in and feel much better now.

This song kept me from falling asleep while I ran! Hope you all like it!

~miles~4.79

*song of the day* Foo Fighters “Pretender”

Jan. 22, 2008

This is the first morning that I haven’t needed my handy little head light because the moon was so bright. I got a good run in, and also made plans to go walking with some friends for 3 miles. Should be a productive day today

~miles~4

*song of the day* Sting“Send Your Love”

Jan. 21, 2008

I wanted to fully recover from Saturday, so no running today. I’m hoping to get in a good hour long of yoga later, or not. It’s gorgeous outside and I don’t want to miss out on that!

~miles today~0

*song of the day* Moby “Run On”

Jan. 20, 2008

I really should have taken a nap yesterday! I was tired and grumpy by the afternoon, but I feel much better after sleeping in and eating oatmeal and fresh berries.Yum!

Happily, the only thing that is sore from yesterday’s run is my butt! I should run hills more often! πŸ™‚

~miles~0

*song of the day* Goo Goo Dolls “Long Way Down”

Jan. 19, 2008

It’s noon and I’m just getting back from my ‘morning’ run. Three of us went to South Mountain to do our long run today. It was my first hill training in a really long time, but I totally kicked butt! I surprised myself today. I guess the ‘core’ work is helping. It took a long time to get to the Mountain, but it was so nice to have a change of scenery.

Great morning, great run and great music!

~miles~14

*song of the day* U2“Zooropa”

Jan. 18, 2008

I have my weekly long run tomorrow so today was a day off. I shouldn’t have, but I stayed up way too late knowing I didn’t have to get up to early. Now I am TIRED.

~miles~0

*song of the day* Band of Horses “Is There A Ghost”

Jan. 17, 2008

I ran one of my old routes, and some nice farmer had mowed down all of the brush and weeds. No tripping today!

~miles~ 4

*song of the day* Red Hot Chili Peppers “Roller Coaster”

Jan. 16, 2008

I did a quick solo run before my husband had to leave for work, and I felt faster than usual. Probably because I didn’t have anyone to blab to. Just me and the iPod.

~miles~3.4

*song of the day* Madonna “Hung Up”

Jan. 15, 2008

I only had time for a short one this morning. I’m already back at 6, so I guess I’ll get my yoga in early today!

This is one of my newest finds. Tons of soul, you can check their site here.

~miles~2.3

*song of the day* Rocca DeLuca and The Burden “Colorful”

Jan. 14, 2008

Today was warmer than usual, and darker. The stars were abnormally bright and I felt like I was running in the middle of the night, not 6am.

I haven’t started doing yoga since I left for Christmas and I have missed it. I actually made a weekly schedule so that I know I have the time set aside. I have never really been a list maker/follower so I am hoping this keeps me on track!

~miles~4

*song of the day* Jason Mraz “Bella Luna”

Jan. 13, 2008

No running today and no sore muscles either! I was wiped out by 10 last night, but I feel great now and am ready to hit it hard again Monday morning!

~miles~0

*song of the day* Corinne Bailey Rae “Put Your Records On”

Jan. 12, 2008

Three of us met this morning at 5:45 this morning and it was chilly! After my first 3 miles I was kicking myself that I didn’t grab my shuffle. The girls I were running with stopped no less than 5 times to ‘stretch’ the first hour, and if I had it I would have taken off on my own for sure. Luckily one of them had to be home early so her husband picked both of them up, and I got to finish the last few miles on my own. It may have been quiet, but it’s was nice just to RUN!

I can’t complain toomuch. It is nice to have company when you are running 2 hours or more. I hate to drag out the long runs even more. I need to work in a couple solo runs this week so I can listen to all of the older music I have added too.

So I LOVE this Kylie Minoguesong and I tried to find a video where she isn’t naked and writhing, and it’s just not going to happen but. . . I found this great cover of the same song by Coldplay of all bands! Hope you like it!

~miles~10.54

*song of the day* Coldplay “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”

Jan. 11, 2008

Not only did I take running off today, but I got to sleep in. Ahhh. So nice!

I’m gearing up for my first ‘long’ run in a while. I’m supposed to run 10 to 12 miles tomorrow and I hope I’m not too slow. Ragnar is only 47 days away so everyone on my team is getting ready. I see more and more of them out training everyday. It seems like running partners were scarce for a while, but we’re all back in full force and I have no excuses not to be out there at least 4 days a week!

*song of the day* Foo Fighters “Times Like These”

Jan. 10, 2008

Today WAS painful getting up at 6! I didn’t go to bed that late, but I did walk 3 miles yesterday morning AFTER my run and breakfast. Maybe that’s why I grumbled the whole time I got ready to run. But I did go, and I got to run with C my favorite running partner. She is done recovering from knee issues and I am very happy to be training with her again! She has always acted as my ‘therapist’ and I could really use that right now!

Jan. 9, 2008

It wasn’t too painful getting up at 6 today. It has still been raining here off and on so the air just smells good. I went from dead of winter to spring in two days. I love that. I think I need more ‘old school’ music in my running mix. I forgot how much I like this one. πŸ™‚

I was supposed to run this morning, but didn’t hear my alarm going off. I need to get out of vacation mode!

Jan. 7, 2008

I know, I skipped a few days. We had to leave earlier in the day on the 5th so we could miss a big storm. We only had bad weather the first hour, and the rest of the drive was nice.

This is my first morning back home and to ‘real’ life. I have been totally spoiled the last few weeks, and now I have to really focus on training. I am less than two months away for Ragnar, and three months to the marathon! I need to get going. . . tomorrow.

My last day in Utah. I’m going to try not to be sulky.

*song of the day* Skye Edwards (ex Morcheeba) “Feel Good Inc”. I love when one of my faves covers another!

Jan. 3, 2008

No running, did help my sister pack heavy boxes around though. I guess that counts as some sort of physical activity. I’m looking forward to starting up yoga again and being back to more of a routine. Vacation is great, but it feels like all I do is eat. A lot.

*song of the day* The Fray “Over My Head”

Jan. 2, 2008

I woke up with a bad head cold today. No running unless you count my nose.

Jan. 1, 2008

Wow, new year! Cool. I think I need to upgrademy blog. I may have to do this soon because I can’t find videos for all the songs I have, or I can’t find a video I am happy with. Here’s a good song not on my running playlist.

*song of the day* The Church “Under The Milky Way”

Dec. 31, 2007

So I ran the same route I had done yesterday, but it felt shorter for some reason. I really need one of these! I am actually starting to like running in the cold. I hope I feel this way the rest of the week.

~miles~ ? Who the hell knows.

*song of the day* Colbie Caillet “Bubbly”

Dec. 29, 2007

I found a great canal road to run on today and left at 10 this morning. The sun was out and I was only cold for the first mile or so. It will be nice to get back to the desert where I don’t have to worry about breathing exhaust from all the traffic, and of course no bundling. It has been a nice break here as I had forgotten how beautiful Salt Lake is in the winter. It’s been a long time.

Another late night visiting with family. I think I have gained 5 pounds already. A not so great perk of staying with the in-laws. This is a song I heard today for the first time, so here it is.

*song of the day* Jack Johnson “If I Had Eyes”

Dec. 26, 2007

I ran today, and it wasn’t as icy and cold as I thought it would be. My husband got to be my running partner and it was just another great perk of staying with the in-laws.

*song of the day* The Shins “Sleeping Lessons”

Dec. 25, 2007

I was going to hit the gym to this morning, but stayed up too late with family last night. I am not going to worry about trying to fit running in for a few days.

It’s 2am, and I just finished all the Santa stuff, and thought I might as well do the song of the day now. Have a great Christmas, and as usual, enjoy.

*song of the day* Natasha Bedingfield “If Your Gonna” (just song)

Dec. 19, 2007

I had a really hot bath last night, and then did a half hour of yoga before I went bed. I’m not as sore today, but took the day off of running anyway. I need a VACATION!

Today is a recovery day from the long run yesterday. This is obviously not a running song, but I didn’t run today. πŸ™‚ Enjoy.

*song of the day* Labhaoise Brennan “You’re On My Mind” (pronounced Lee-sha)

Dec. 17, 2007

I got to run with my original training partner for my first 3 miles, and it was great to run with someone who is more at my pace. I felt pretty fast today during my run, but it could have been that I was cold, and wanted to get home quick!

I have decided to run the Salt Lake Marathon this year, and so far 2 of my friends are coming along. Sounds like a ‘girls trip’ to me. πŸ™‚

*song of the day* Fall Out Boy “Arms Race” (hard run)

Dec.16, 2007

I’m goingto be baking, sewing, and doing crafts all day. Oh, and listening to music. I heard this song for the first time this morning, and I can’t get it out of my head. The video is really sweet too.

*song of the day* Ingrid Michaelson ” The Way I Am”

Dec. 15, 2007

We finally got our family photos done this morning, so no running. 😦 All of my procrastinating is catching up to me. I guess it’s 10 miles on Monday.

*song of the day* Diana Krall “Cry Me a River”

Dec. 14, 2007

I had a good run with 3 other women and a stroller. Slow, but nice. It’s very cold today and I had to wear a beanie and gloves, even going later at 7am. I guess it’s finally winter here. It hasn’t felt like Christmas yet, so maybe a Christmas song will help. This is a great one that I listened to no less than 100 times last year.

*song of the day* Maroon 5 “Happy Christmas”

Dec. 13, 2007

Feel pretty good today. No running, just yoga and belly dancing. (yes belly dancing) I’ll have to blog about that later.

I just discovered this cover. I have changed my mind on the song of the day three times! I am sticking with this one because it is a beautiful day today! (finally)

*song of the day* The Killers “Read My Mind”

Dec. 11, 2007

It was too rainy to run this morning, even for me. I used to run in snow, sleet, whatever, and now I am a total baby. I am a fair weather girl for sure. I guess it’s an hour of yoga for me tonight.

~miles~ 0

*song of the day* Dido “Sand in My Shoes” because I want to be on a beach right now. . .

Dec. 10, 2007

This morningwas the first day I had to turn my heat on in my house. I think it’s only in the 50’s, but it feels cold to us! My run today was with someone from church that I didn’t know very well, and we discussed life, tolerance and other positive topics. Toooften all you hear about is what’s wrong with the world, and it was refreshingto run with someone who ‘get’s it’. Nice morning.

BRRR! It was drizzlingalmost the whole time I ran, but I wasn’t cold until I got home. No music today as I ran withfriends, but if I was running through those mudslides by myself, I would have listened to this song for sure!

*song of the day* Jem “Just a Ride”. . . Great song!!

Dec. 5, 2007

The running is going fantastic, but I think I need to seriously think about cross-training.

I have been running long enough that I’m not getting a good enough work out just increasing my mileage. I am going to resume my tempo work in January, when my friends and I will be going to the track regularly, and this should help, but I want to start focusing on the rest of my body. I miss the feeling of sore muscles. Weird.

I found a yoga workout that I’m goingto do twice a week during December. I know this will help my flexibility (or the lack of) and I also think it will be the perfect way to de-compress during the holiday season. I also feel really cool doingyoga. I’m not sure why this is, maybe it’s because I feel calm, centered, and at peace with my thoughts. . . or maybe it’s just how hot I look feel in my yoga outfits.

Yeah, I’m liking the yoga idea.
